Subject: What school would you have to get into to stop playing the lottery?
The IB for a lot of SWS is SH, which is acceptable to some. SWS feeds to EH, which is acceptable to none.

Obviously because all the Lee CMI and ITS posters will be attending their IB high schools
We are a CMI poster and we have no plans to go to our in bounds high school.

I singled out SWS. Both CMI and IT have middle schools and some kids may go to in bounds high school but I was thinking many of them will go to the application schools. SWS families almost all will have to go to the lottery for MS based on the current make up of the student body. Few at SWS are in bounds for desirable MS.
What does this mean?
It means the inbound MS for some SWS families is not desirable. Which is also true of Brent and Maury.

if we get in any of the places we are wait-listed, and we have a decent shot at Lee, we'll probably stay there and not worry about the lottery again. i think we'll probably move out of the DC area before middle school. i'm inbounds for tubman and reasonably happy with it for the lower grades; we'll re-evaluate next spring with respect to our moving plans and decide whether it makes sense to try for another school when we might leave soon anyway.

Everyone can't go to the application high schools - just not enough room. There is a shock coming soon at SWW - not unlike the one that hit some Cap Hill parents whose students didn't lottery into Latin or Basis.

We're in elementary at ITS. The administration has talked about the possibility of a future high school (the Center for Inspired Teaching does a lot of work in high schools) so I'm hoping in 8-10 years by the time my child is in high school, he'll just transition to a ITS High School. Fingers crossed and hopeful.

I was the one who posted that I was unhappy to play the lottery again after several years of being happy with SWS. Don't get me wrong, 5 years without having to think about it has been great. Just not looking forward to what comes next.

Not PP or OP, but still interesting to see people post regarding where they would stay for that specific school (elementary or middle) even if it meant having to lottery for middle or high.
Having been one of those people and gotten terrible MS lottery results, I think it happened because we vastly overestimated our odds of lotterying into an acceptable MS/HS. DC is not for the faint of heart.
