1. They don't tell who made the report, and in some cases it is very evident, in other cases it isn't. I have families mad at me because they think I called (I didn't, but won't disclose who did, if I know.)
2. Not all calls are investigated. Some calls get screened out. Some calls are taken as I&R calls (information and referral.) But even if a case isn't opened, the report is documented in case they get additional/future calls there will be a paper trail of reports.
Not true. To what jurisdiction are you referring? Where we live, CPS is mandated by law to go out and investigate, which involves ALL members of the household AND the school.
This is true, at least in Montgomery County. My husbands ex wife has called CPS on us multiple times for truly outlandish and crazy things. In those cases, CPS has placed a phone call to my husband and spoken to my stepson and the cases have been dismissed without a home investigation. In one case the CPS person came to our house because his ex gave the phone number incorrectly, she didn't step foot inside out house and was coming out just to let my husband know it was being dismissed.

I decided not to report it because while they wouldn't give the parent involved my name, they would have to describe the situation in which it occurred. It would have been obvious who could have reported it. I wear a name badge and I have no idea if he noticed it, but I did not want him to have any personal information about me.
It is really tough to see something bad happen to a child and not report it because of fear of personal safety.
This was ten years ago and I still am horrified.
Frankly, I'm a little horrified that you claim to have witnesses something CPS-worthy, and yet you were afraid of a confrontation so you let it go.
Im horrifed too. But if they lost all morals and are willing to rape their own child I'd be fearful what they could do to my family.
So you let a child rapist go -- you are just as bad as the rapist.
Wait, you WITNESSED a child being raped and you didn't do anything?

I asked because I feel my own family would be in danger if it was known who called.
What is claim? And why do you feel your family would be in danger?
I really don't want to give that information on a public forum.
It's dangerous because this person has a history of violence and of seeking revenge.
But it's ok with you to keep a child in harm's way
sigh
I understand why Op wouldn't want to put her own children in harms way.
Yes, and she is trying to figure out what to do. If she didn't care, she wouldn't be doing that.

Yea
Cause posting in DCUM is helping an amused child.
Shame on you and OP.
Uh ... she is trying to help the abused child(ren) and trying to find a way to do it that doesn't put her own child(ren) in danger. That isn't shameful at all.
What is wrong with you?
