She didn't forget because of the keyless entry (although that's her excuse). She forgot to shut off the car because she was all freaked out her kids having a meltdown over a missed bedtime. It's not just about reminding yourself to turn off the car, it's about the hyper anxiety over something stupid; little kids staying up past their bedtime.
She could have killed her whole family because she didn't want her kid crying in the car. This is bigger than a keyless remote people. Jeez!

And why oh why is there NOT a feature that automatically turns off the engine after awhile, with no keys present? A major flaw in the production.
Bc that kind of feature could malfunction and turn the car off in the middle of a highway.
Engineers can't design a car to shut off after a hour in "Park" and never automatically shutoff when car is in any other gear??
They can design it but things malfunction, so it's the lack of a fool proof design that has been a hindrance to this. I think the car industry is gun shy on this issue -- GM had a HUGE recall 2 yrs ago bc cars were shutting off while in motion leading to accidents bc of faulty ignition switches. I think there is a reluctance to introduce technology that automatically shuts off a car in any scenario bc they know how badly it can go if it shuts off when it's not intended to do so.

They can. My electric car does this.
Of course, i can also leave it running where ever with impunity, which is kind of a great feature under certain circumstances. (Running into store on a hot day, leaving kids (older kids) and dogs in car.) Etc. Also great in blackouts, when we all just go hang out in the car.

My DH has a keyless start car also. He's also a very anxious person and does some really stupid stuff when the anxiety reaches a high level. He left his car running for about three hours while we were at school function. The car was parked outside so it wasn't a safety issue but there is a correlation between highly anxious, nervous people and these kinds of incidents.

Everyone is slamming the OP, but the few times I've rented a car with keyless start, I've found it is very easy to forget the car is running.
I do think if I drove it regularly I'd get in the habit, but maybe not. I can see how you'd forget if you were in the middle of a stressful situation.
Another good reason to have CO detectors in your house!

becoming a huge issue much like not hearing the cars in parking lots yet the manufacturers have the ability to add noise to the engine, they refuse to.

I can't imagine leaving the car running! Wouldn't you be worried it will somehow get knocked out of park (esp with kids running around) and drive into the house or back into the street killing someone, or at the very least damaging the car?

This inside of those things along with leaving your kid in the car all day, that I feel doesn't just happen all that often. If you did it once, you'll feel bad enough. And lucky enough that you're alive.
