Wallpaper is not easily changed and is a really bad option for a kitchen backsplash.
I disagree
NP: Maybe there is a brand new, highly scrubbable, non-peeling space-age polymer wallpaper on the market because wallpaper as a backsplash is a non starter.

Wow I really don't like that. Anything you put against it has to be one solid color or it will clash. Even that vase against it is terrible. It's too crazy! And in general I think the textile choices in that dreamhome are terrible! The wallpaper in the guestroom is a travesty!!! You could lose a small child in there!!!

+1 We have these in our kitchen (complete with medallion accent tiles), and it looks very dated. And dark and dirty. /goes great with the dark cherry cabinets. Ick. I wish we could afford to renovate! Like this:

Yuck!
Sleek, clean, light reflecting is in. I want glass tiles like these:

OP asked which is the most trendy -- I vote the metallic silver tiles. Tiles, unlike large hunks of granite, can be easily taken out in 10-15 years if you get tied of them.

Oh I like those glass subway tiles in the last link!
I wonder why they didn't put cabinets above the counter in that last link. Unless your owner is in a wheelchair, that seems like a huge amount of wasted space up there.
I like those tiles, too.

Black, gray, colored
ugh. i don't want a gray kitchen. my colors are warmer so it just doesn't work. i'm sticking with white. (small kitchen too...)

I love that!
I hate that. Way too busy and incongruous with the style of the house. Plus it looks dated to me.
