I just take note of who they are, and right before my evening walk around the neighborhood, I urinate into an old Gatorade plastic bottle, and when I get to the neighbors home that decided to let their dog pee in my yard, just pick an area that I believe is fair game, and empty my pee on their yard. Then we are even. One owner let their dog poop in my yard and didn't clean it. I just picked up the poop, boxed it, and fedexed it to the neighbor with a note saying that they forgot to clean their dogs defecation from my yard and that I'd appreciate it if they returned my overnight fedex cost. I was surprised that They did (probably let the dog pee on the cash, but whatever) and now I never see them walking in front of my house anymore. What they do in their own yard is their business. In my yard, don't touch my property.

While I am hoping this is actually a joke, assuming it is not, I feel kind of bad for the Fedex delivery guy to be involved in this crazy personal vendetta. Seems like it would be more appopriate to hand deliver when out on next walk with gatorade bottle.

I live on a corner lot, and I have a fence around it precisely for that reason. I would never be able to do what you did, and while I think the pee-in-a-bottle thing is crazy and stooping to their level, I think the FedExed poop is just what they deserved. Couldn't do it though, because I can't touch dog crap with a ten foot pole.

I didn't have pets growing up and was not around dogs very often, yet somehow I always knew that dogs poop in the yard!! It is common sense. How -- and I ask this in the nicest way possible -- can you not have figured that out over the course of your lifetime?

As long as they poop in their own yard, it is not of my business. But if neighbors let their dogs pee on the colorful flowers I've been growing under my mailbox, I'll chase both neighbors and dogs.

Hooooooleeeeeeeeeshiiiiiiiit that is nasty. I love how that was clearly weeks and weeks worth of crap and the owner was insistent they don't pick up "every single day." Lady, you don't pick up ever!

It was absolutely disgusting. I frequently passed by this area and saw the poop with my own eyes.
The public shaming actually worked - it's no longer a problem.

I mean, I feel for her, 8 months pregnant is tough, public shaming isn't fun, but wow that was nasty.

Wow, the neighbors are lucky the woman didn't heavily lawyer up about their "public shaming" - a very dangerous approach, on the neighbors' part!

I'm pretty sure the owners are lawyers themselves (or at least the "partner" who works 14 hours per day is an attorney).
That said, there's no libel or slander here if the neighbors are telling the truth. Which they did - there's documented evidence of tons of poop and that happens to violate the DC health code. Where's the damages for the negligent home owners?

There are many issues at play here.

Such as.....? Enlighten me.
I'm trying to understand on what grounds the owners would have for taking legal action against the neighbors or the owner of the PoPville blog. They would get laughed out of court.

Is it normal for people to let their dogs run around in the back yard and poop all over the place (on their property)?

They have a nice big back yard, about 0.25 acres of grass, and it has a short wrought iron fence around it so the dog should not get into our yard.

Does this just seem weird because I didn't grow up with pets?

OP, tell us, are you one of those neighborhood whackos who tries to approach new neighbors to misinform and fear monger? How is that working for you?

Poop on your own property or in common areas. Not on private property. That is rude and selfish and being a terrible neighbor.

That's a bit extreme. In my neighborhood we don't have sidewalks, so where would the dog go? We have a 3/4 acre lot and it doesn't bother me if a dog craps on my front yard. If you're worried about the dog crapping on your grass and you got a good sized yard, you might want to look into having that stick removed from your anus..

They obviously had the money to outsource the task. That's what people were angry about. Being pregnant doesn't obviate one from picking up the phone and arranging back-up help.

Yea, there are plenty of services that will come clean your yard for not much money. Especially given how simple a job it would be with the astro/synturf or whatever they called it. Hell, you could probably sweep it up once it, uh, dried up a little.

Post 03/17/2016 12:12     Subject: Re:Neighbor's dog poops in their yard

We have large dog and a large yard. He poops in the yard and he poops on his daily walk, and we clean the yard of poop on the weekend. Oddly, my kids have never actually stepped in it before, but most of the time he goes in one particular spot in our yard. In the summer, when the lawn is mowed weekly on Friday, the poop magically disappears (!) so there is nothing left to pick up. It's kinda gross, but I try not to think about it.

And then they covered THAT with piles of rotting dog poop?

Whoa! That is crazy!

What happens when it rains on that corner?

I know! I'm reading this now and can't even believe it. So gross all around. Even the astroturf is nasty
