Nothing is stopping them. That's true.

But very few choose this route. The magnetic pull of the Catholic world is extremely strong.

And once the kids enter high school, neighborhood friendships begin to weaken as high school one are formed.

Here's the thing though: most of the "high end privates" are much more competitive entry. This means that the rare 4 year old who does get into Maret/Sidwell/Beauvoir will definitely not be with all of her friends from 20815/20015. But more importantly, it means that her mom and dad will not be with all of their friends from CCMD/CCDC.

This guaranteed dilution of the posse is an unappealing prospect, given that the parental social scene is half the point of choosing BS.


There's little if any interest among the BS crowd in schools like Maret or Sidwell. Or among those at Mercy or St Barts of DeChantal or any of the other Catholic grade schools in the area.

These Independent schools are in a different world as far as they are concerned. A world they know or care little about an have no desire to visit.

And I have 3 kids there (soon to be 4) and cannot check any of these boxes except for being Catholic. This thread is so off base - and obviously puppeted by anti Catholic people. The school is great. The academics are very strong. Check it out for yourself.
