And I visited many of the colleges my kids were interested in because I was interested too. I did not accompany to the ones where my kids were flown in by the schools and picked up at the airports. I wish I would give two cents what some stranger says how I should conduct the affairs of my family. I would have no qualms telling them where they can stick their helicopter.

I agree there's nothing wrong with wanting to visit/accompany on visits. That's not what PP wrote. PP wrote that she would not allow her precious snowflake to attend a University without a visit. That there's some serious helicopter action.

They sent me, and I mostly got myself from place to place within the northeast corridor, taking Amtrak, cabs, buses, etc. Honestly, I'm not sure what input they could have provided from visiting the schools -- the visits are mostly about getting a "feel" for the student body and school...and that's something the student needs to feel comfortable with, not the parents.
I think the presentations aimed at parents are just huge snow jobs.

+1 I agree. Did my college search, visits, application, testing, entirely on my own.
