What recent popularity? It spent 8 years in the top 100, peaking at #53 in 1997. In 2014 it was #332. For comparison, #53 in 2014 was Paisley.

My 3 yo daughter is Sabrina and I sometimes call her Brini or Brini-weenie. Everyone else class her Sabrina. Never gotten any teenage witch comments either, but we are 40 and never watched the show.

She didn't!! I am also considering the name and wanted to get feedback from other's. I'm not sure how many people associate the name with the tv show as I didn't grow up here. It's an Italian name.

I have a little Sabrina. We (the immediate family) occasionally call her Brie or Briebs. A friend's child calls her Brina because he can't say Sabrina. Everyone else calls her Sabrina. I think it's not one of those names that people automatically try to shorten.
