He's done his laundry our entire relationship, including nearly five years of marriage. We both do lots for each other. I also think it's good modeling for our kids, i.e., I'm not raising sons who can't do laundry or daughters who can't change a tire.

I do, but I do most of the laundry (I WAH, so often pop in a load through the workday).

The only thing I *hate* doing is replacing collar stays when I do his dress shirts. I'll hang, but for the fiddly stays- he's on his own.

I've been kind of wondering about these SAHMs who don't do all the laundry. If my husband was the only one working, I'd consider keeping his work clothes clean and organized to be part of my contribution to his success. If I were the only one working, I'd certainly expect such a "foundational" home chore to be taken care of by my husband.

Hell no. I have our cleaners fold and put away our clothes every week. I hate laundry.

I do, but I'm a SAHM and consider it part of my job description.

+1, I do the laundry. He empties the dishwasher. Sometimes we get crazy and HE folds the laundry and I empty the dishwasher! It's called being partners!

Nope. We both do our own clothes, as we are each particular in different ways.

We will flip for each other, or shake & lay out after drying.

We share the linens.

No! My kids also fold/put away their own clothes.

I only do it once in awhile when I am so fed up he hasn't done it himself!

But we agreed when we married that we each do our own laundry. No way was I going to be responsible for DH's military uniforms. And it went from there.

Yes, I wash, fold, and put away all laundry for the family.

Yes, but we have divided all chores. He does other chores.

Anonymous wrote:We had a very lively debate at Christmas dinner after it came out that my husband and I fold and put away our own clothes. We each do our fair share of laundry, but I probably do it more because I work a part time schedule. But once it comes out of the dryer, we each take care of our own stuff. It has never even occurred to me to put his clothes away. He's a grown man and is perfectly capable of doing this himself.

All of the other wives were astonished and apparently always fold and put away their husband's clothes. None of the husbands ever put their wives' clothes away. FWIW, the other couples were 10+ years older than my husband and I. (DH and I are late 30's/early 40's)

Are we the outliers or are there other couples like us?

THe person who folds the load puts them away. This varies with the load.

OP, the situation in your household is very different from what others posters have described. Apparently, you take his laundry out and leave if out there in a pile till the time he gets to it??? Now, that's not marriage. To me this is incredibly silly, weird behavior.

Signed - Someone who rarely does laundry, DH is so good at it.

My DH does all the laundry and puts it away. Always has. Married 25 years, two kids.
