Based on 2015 stats, we each have about a 0.000002% risk of being killed or injured by an Islamic terrorist. Fewer than 20 Americans are killed worldwide by terrorists each year, and that includes in war zones. Is it really worth shutting down an existing refugee program that has a 2 year vetting process because of such an almost-insignificant risk?

no offense, but take a world religions class. Jews Christians and Muslims all share the same foundation stories--that's why they are all 'people of the book'--but they branch off at different point with different concepts of God and being saved.

It will pass, but I frankly wish people were more upset with the lack of response and assistance from the middle east, rather than blaming understandably frightened Americans for their fears and behaviors.
we created the vaccum in Iraq where ISIS was born. Egypt and Jordan are fighting Isis but they can barely feed their people. They need to be a part of the solution but should not be solely responsible for cleaning up our mess.
maybe if jordanian royalty didn't rape and pillage wealth and promised to transition into a representative democracy and give away their wealth, more people could be fed.
This does not absolve the U.S. of our responsibility. It sounds like my 8 year old, citing everyone else's misdeeds as the reason for his own.

On another note, ISIS wants the West to reject the refugees, which will alienate them from the West and drive them into the arms of ISIS. Giving into fear by refusing entry to 10,000 refugees is only letting the terrorists win. That's what the terrorists want in the long run.
I have read this reference to the ISIS "strategy" several times on DCUM. Can you provide a link to the ISIS playbook so I can understand their "strategy" in detail?

Right. Trump is trying to win an election. The "intellectuals" of the DC Beltway who dominate the conversation here are irrelevant to the overall vote, and strategy necessary to win the election, and the republican primary. Trump's statements are calculated, in fact his numbers have gone up since these statements. This in not unlike Obama's strategy to appeal to the low income voters by promising them "stuff" without any regard of how to pay for it. Those who knew we could not afford it were in a minority compared to the masses who want something for nothing. This is all about pandering to the fears and pent up frustration of middle America. The forgotten man for the last 7 years.

If it captured the time period, then let it be. That was my point. There's no need in resurrecting the past unless the resurrection is used to TEACH that we've learned nothing as a human race.

As to 'it's just a book'--I'm not even sure what that means. It's a religious text--it is living and breathing and open to interpretation and reinterpretation.
Early Christians banned parts of early Christian writings from the 'official bible'. The Middle Ages Christians practiced horrible things such as the Inquisition , witch hunts. I am pretty sure if there were still whole parts of the Christian world - and by that I mean whole regions/political systems interwoven with religious --devoted to those types of practices, people would be questioning the practices and beliefs of Christians everywhere quite a bit.

Islam means submission to God. The whole religion is based on submission. Thats ok - somewhat relaxing to hand over the reins - except in so many places Islam institutionalized politically as a theocracy . Then people are forced to submit - non believers to believers, women to men, hair to veils, temptations to proscriptions, free speech to silence . When this religion travels to free societies it can be an uneasy fit due to places where the rules of a free society come.into conflict with the rules of Islamic communities - hence honor killings and jihadis: Duty to a code, not to the mores and laws of the new land which have been declared the enemy by whole countries not to mention some individual imams and mullahs.
