We pulled our 1st and 4th graders out for 4 days in October to go to Disney when they were younger. It was great, not crowded and cool weather. We would not do it now that they are in high school.

For kids that age, yes! but ick, not Disney.

Seriously people, I do this EVERY year - 5 whole days - no one bats an eye.

I find it laughable that so many of you think your kids could not or should not miss ONE week of elementary school.

For Disney? No.

I plan to do this with my K and 2nd grader. We're going to FL to visit grandparents and Disney. Since it will be February, odds are good some of those missing days will be snow days, since I'm pretty sure they missed half of Feb last year because of snow.

The message my kids get is that family vacations are more important than school. And I'm OK with that.

Um, yes it is okay to miss school...especially in elementary school (when grades literally do not matter).

Please stop trying to scare the OP. She will not get in trouble for pulling her kids out for a week to go to disney. Period.

I'm not sure whether I would let the kids miss school or not but when we were living abroad (and so had different vacation dates), we came back to the US for a vacation when US schools were still in session. We added on some days at Disney. It was amazing. No lines at all. We walked from ride to ride without waiting.

I mean, it's not ok to miss school but man what a difference it makes to go when most other kids are in school.
