Many OOB Shepherd students are from nearby (Takoma, Brightwood, etc.). Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who actually live up here in the nether regions.

FWIW I associate the far north schools either without regard to their _OTP status, or more with WOTP. I thin most people on or near the Hill feel that way.

Crosstown traffic is no treat, yet people still try to get OOB seats at JKLM.


There are also lots of kids from Petworth at Shepherd. North bound is zero traffic and they travel back using GA ave or 14th. Better commute than going east to Mundo Verde or Inspired.

Not really. There is only one EOTP school that didn't have PK3 (Shepherd).


Thanks, i didn't know that about shepherd. I meant that they need not worry about being personally identified, so why not just name the school outright and it will make for a more interesting thread.


S/he didn't mention it because Shepherd is still a predominantly black school, which means that, despite the affluence of its families, the high scores, the gorgeous grounds and building, not many on DCUM care about it.

And what would they be screaming in schools with few or no white or asian families? I agree with the PP about DCPS standards, but DCPS very clearly attends to the wishes of those who are more affluent. Lower income people can - and do - scream all they want but the label FARMS means that intelligence is about the very last need that will be considered. And if there are mostly black kids in a program for high achievers, white people will complain it's not good enough and/or that resources should be diverted elsewhere to more "deserving" gifted/talented students. Exempli gratia, Banneker, Eastern, CHEC, McKinley, Ellington.
