OP I posted before that we went to the center school I had the same feelings you do of wanting to stay in the neighborhood and so on. But my neighbor who had done it said you are lucky and if it were him he wou take advantage of the opportunity and go to the center. Never looked back. DS is at TJ now. The base school was alwa saying that my DS wasn't smart enough for the then GT and they did it like the AAP program and so on. DS needed an ES education not an opportunity to learn how to sit still and wait for the rest of the class to catch up. That was not a very healthy place for him to be either Thinking he was the smartest. Better for him to be with peers. Sorry phone typing

You missed my point about it being mandated. AAP centers are a concoction of FFX county. They can offer your gifted services, just in a different format

Our AAP center is Hunters Woods in Reston. As of now, I have not even seen it, but would like to know more about the school.

OP: there is no such thing as a "typical" center. You'll get better info if you name your Center.
