We're an IB Eaton family and unfortunately have a very different view. In fact, we think that Eaton moving out of Deal will hurt Eaton as it may reverse the trend of increasing IB enrollment which has made Eaton a more vibrant and diverse school as compared to where it was a decade ago.


We are an Eaton IB family with a kid that is grandfathered to Deal. Based on what we have seen visiting both schools there is a very likely that we are going to choose Hardy over Deal. We also have a representative on a Feeder school Parents group that has children grandfathered to Deal and I am fairly certain they are going to choose Hardy as well. There are certainly some Eaton parents with concerns but overall I think this will be a benefit to Eaton. Hardy is a gem! Deal is obviously great as well but a school of that size isnt for everyone.

I recently overheard a discussion of fourth-grade parents at Mann. (I was not immediately in the discussion.) There was open talk of coordinating on a strategy and sending the children to Hardy. Many fourth-grade parents have already decided to not go to privates for fifth-grade. The sentiment is that their children will either go to Hardy or the parents will find a private happy to accept their child for 6th grade. This is quite the change for the past.

This is particularly true if your child is in fourth grade or below and will be in middle school after the fall of 2019. Having this facility across the street would be a huge amenity for Hardy. Normally under DC law DCPS teams have the highest priority for using DPR facilities. The Maret deal required that the DC Council make a special exemption, any renewal will require council approval as well.

It's not too early to start raising the issue with your elected officials.


This is not true. Maret only has use of the field from 3:30-5:30. The rest of the time, the field is scheduled through DPR.

It is a DCPS policy for high school sports - to cover scenario of a kid at McKinley or Banneker who may want to play football or something not offered at their school.

It's a DCPS rule that if the school you attend doesn't offer a sport you can play that sport at a school that does.


That very well may be a dcps rule but Wilson crew is not a dcps funded sport, it is run by a parent board. Any dcps student, regardless of school, is allowed to participate, but i believe that is a board policy, not a dcps policy.

Mine doesn't like Fillmore wither because he is really not into arts and crafts, but hasn't said anything bad about Hardy or the kids there.
He is so going to Hardy in 2 years (from Stoddert).

Here's the Hardy ATHLETICS website folks. Not only does it list numerous sports for Hardy students, it also contains team game schedules. E.g., soccer; volleyball; cross-country; baseball. Deal is one of the other schools they play, not surprisingly.

We play Latin. Wouldn't want to play Deal with their 1200+ student body. I bet their best 11 are pretty good.
