We just did it yesterday.

If cookie dough could kill, I would have been dead long ago.

As long as you don't put the spoon back in (double dip), who cares?

All professional chefs lick the spoon.

I'm sure most urban and suburban children, up until recently, ate raw dough made with "grocery store eggs" and lived to tell about it. I know I did.

They get the beaters, I get the bowl.

Anonymous wrote:Yep! What's weird is I am totally grossed out by raw egg in general, I don't like sunny side up eggs unless they're well done, won't drink pisco sour, nearly gag at the thought of raw eggs in carnation instant breakfast. But I always lick the beater and let my 3yo do the same!

OP here. Me too! I don't usually like raw or runny yolks. But for some reason cookie dough doesn't bother me at all.

What do you mean "with the icing"? Like when it's on a cake? Why would they think that because it's ok to lick a spoon that's about to go in the dishwasher that it's also ok to lick the icing off a cake that is for more people than just themselves?

I'm not too grossed out my saliva I guess. I would not be grossed out by the GS cupcakes. Were they licking each other's fingers? lol that still wouldn't bother me though. I let my kids share drinks and stuff.

Anonymous wrote:Yeah, I totally do. Only with grocery store eggs though, not the yard chicken eggs we get from a friend. Not sure how much difference there is in the risk, but I feel better about it with grocery store eggs.

Why grocery store eggs over fresh?? That seems opposite of what I do. I figure fresh from the yard are more likely to be clean. Grocery stores don't pasteurize the eggs.

Why though? that's the interesting part.

Anonymous wrote:Never. Salmonella is in most eggs - even pasture raised organic ones! In an ER doctor and have seen a ton of salmonella diarrhea and just enough cases of salmonella blood infections and complications to freak me out about letting my kids do this....

I'm the OP and I'm interested in learning more about this. I've read that pastured eggs have less of a chance of having salmonella.

Can you explain?

In a conversation about when to start babies on solids, my grandma told me she fed her son raw eggs starting when he was 2 weeks old because he was so hungry at the doctor's suggestion. My uncle is still alive!
