I think it's a way for dumb/uncultured people to feel special.
Tell that to my PHd-having, theatre-loving, beer snob husband. Or my very-welll-educated friends who just threw an amazing beer-tasting party for 100 of their friends. (Or me. I have a masters degree in an arts field, love good books, and a good drink. I prefer wine or whiskey to beer, but I really like a good beer from a good brewery.)

Beer geeks are the folks who bloviate about Original Gravity, and IBUs, and food pairings, etc. and I agree they can be pretty intolerable.

Seriously, I don't get the White Zin hate. I have not done a side by side tasting of a White Zin against say, a French Rose, but if you want something light and slightly sweet and unsubtle and cheap for a picnic, is the latter really a better choice?

I judge people who drink Boone's Farm.
And I judge my father a little for drinking cheap lambrusco when we go to italian restaurants, and get annoyed when he expects me to drink it too.
other than that, who cares? I admire those who are wine agnostic - who are cool with either white or red - because I really only want to drink red, no matter how warm it is outside, and I know that might be kind of dumb.
