I didn't read the entire thread, but I got my first period right after I turned 11. I was probably about 5' or 5'1" at the time, because I remember being about the same height as my mom. I grew another 4" before I stopped growing around 16. Some of that probably has to do with starting early but I'm not sure.

My daughters are almost 10 (twins) and so far no signs of puberty. I have always had terrible periods and really hope they either inherit the "easy period" gene that the women in DH's family all seem to have, or if they're going to take after me in that department, they won't have to deal with it for another few years.

My sister was one if the ones who kept growing though college. She was under 5'0" when she got her period at 9, then slowly grew a couple more inches. At or point when she was home for college my Mom commented that she looked taller and sure enough she was 5'4". I am not sure if he has just been slowly growing along or if she had a growth spurt in college.

I got my period at 11 and grew very little after that. I was 5'5" at 11 and am now just barely 5'6".

About 2. She was 12.5

Doesn't seem that rare.

Girls rarely grow much after their first period.

This was me. I tapped out at 5’6 in MS then in my first year of college I grew 2 inches.

One of our daughters grew 3" and one grew almost 4". We are genetically related to the one who grew almost 4 and not genetically related to the one who grew less. Both girls began their periods roughly in the 12.5-13 age range. I grew about 2" after I got my first period at 13.

Who are you people who are so fixated on your DD's height? Is she tall enough to drive a car and reach the glasses in the cupboard? If so, who the hell cares what height she is?

Also, are people aware that the average height for women in the US is:

Black women: 5'4"
Hispanic/ Latina: 5'1.5
Asian: 5'1.5
White: 5'3.5"

A 5'3" American woman is not "short."

My dd had to see an ortho for a scoliosis check. She is 12 and had started menstruating 16 months prior. The ortho was surprised that her ex-ray didn’t indicate that she was menstruating yet, so he thinks she’ll be growing for a while.

I was 5’6” at 14 when I got my period and finished at 5’8”.

I have boys but my SIL told me she got hers at 11 but she kept growing - she's 6 ft tall.

This is similar to how I wasI was about 5 2' when I started my period. I was 5' 4. 5" when I left for college. End of college I was 5'7".

I only grew two inches though. Got it at 12 when I was 5’3” and now I’m 5’5”
