It was posted on FB two hours after it happened. You are ridiculous. My dad died suddenly and his sister lives in Europe. She was one of the first people I called but I waited until I knew she'd be up to do it.

If it's not your news to announce, don't post it on Facebook. If it's a death, a birth, a pregnancy, an engagement. If the people most directly impacted haven't put anything on there yet, don't be the first to do it.

That is bad behavior but the cousin relationship is too remote for me to care op.

What I don't understand about people who post these announcements is, do they expect their Facebook "friends" to "Like" the post. That seems a bit creepy to me, as in "I like the fact that your dad just died...."

My cousin posted to Facebook that my grandmother had died before my father had the chance to call me and tell me (under 24 hours we all live in the U.S.)
I thought it was extremely ridiculous and rude to post something about a family members death before the immediate family was told. Facebook is the worst wth this shit. I e been a big fan for years but I'm slowly backing away

Asshole Cousin is a redundant term.

One of my cousins (and her two daughters) is like this. Her mother was seriously ill with cancer and there would be days we'd see endless posts about praying and how hard things were and so on and so on. It really upset members of the family - my other cousin (the offender's sister) was constantly pissed off at her sister). Older family members were furious.

Some people just revel in Facebook. They wanted all their "friends" - people who didn't even know or barely knew my aunt - to post and comment. It was pretty awful. My mother said to me more than once- if you treat my death like a public spectacle I will haunt you!

When my aunt did pass away, of course my stupid cousin had it on Facebook first. It had happened in the middle of the night and I saw in right in the morning and called my mom to tell her before she read it online.
