Not OP, but we're Jewish and it's custom not to tell people the name before birth. Some go so far as to not use it until the Brit Milah or the baby naming ceremony.

It's ok. I honestly think some of the perception of these posted decals has to do with the name itself, at least as far as DCUM goes. A 'classy' name like Nathan will get a better response than if that decal said "Brayden."

- The rest of the photo is EXTREMELY clean/plain. Even the 3 books (which are adult book size, not kid book size) have plain white covers on them with no text. Only one book end. A single flower.
- The paint job is immaculate. There is wainscoting on the bottom, in white (which - most people wouldn't do that it a kid's room because it will get dirty easily as the kid gets older)
- White curtains
- Nothing "busy" outside the windows
All of the "professional" photos of the names on the walls that have been posted look cute. But when you get into reality with stacks of diapers on a dresser, probably some sort of patterned bedding, full wall color (people would do well to pick more neutral tones for the wall and bring color in through decorations, but I digress), non-white curtains, looking out into a subdivision with cars parked on the street and other houses and toys in the yard, other wall hangings - it just starts to look busy and cluttery.
I'm not going to judge people who put baby names up in nurseries. I see the appeal. But people just need to be realistic about what you see in those stock photos you post (the Nathan one has a decorative pillow in the crib!!! really!!!) versus how it is going to look in real life.

We display them proudly and our children love them. Yes, my son loves his sampler with flowers and cute animals. So does my daughter.
The classy, non-teem-momm, non-redneck crowd can clutch their pearl till the cows come home. We decided to go the way of what we enjoy and what makes us smile, not the way of what people think.
Anonymous wrote:This is nuts. OP just wants to know if you'd put the name up before baby is born.
I wouldn't. Feels weird to me. Also wanted option to choose a different name from the front runner in the hospital.
Anonymous wrote:If you mean hanging letters like this, just don't put them up until the baby comes.
