Nope, giftedness is high intellectual ability, not self motivation.


I'll take your comment more seriously when you can give specifics to why general ed kids can't do the AAP science curriculum like I asked.


I'm not the OP, but your question clearly made me believe that you do not have a gifted child.

I had heard that this change was coming and I think it's a really interesting approach and I'm interested to see how it pans out. I think it will help to lessen the "us vs. them" mentality that exists. Had it been an option when we were making the decision for our child (we chose to move to LAES), it would have made the decision much more difficult as I found the biggest negative of the LLIV to be the fact that the children remained in class with the same students for four straight years.


Agree; no child “needs” separate / accelerated class.

Plus this approach is more racially equitable.

There is a similar thread to this, although that school (Shrevewood) is doing two AAP classes for all (or at least 3rd-6th), starting next year. Pretty big leap.

I am not keen on moving schools to Reston especially when I know no one hardly switches to Sunrise Valley. Which means we have to stay back at FHES. Sigh!!

I know several people based at FHES that send their AAP kid to LAES. One of them switched in 4th grade because they were so unimpressed with FHES's LIV program and the school administration. Very few nice things to say about it, and they are much happier at LAES.

Yes, and it comes from above -- the principal. He thinks that smart kids are a PITA and should go to the center school-- he is NOT in favor of the AAP program. He told me this and it seems nothing has changed since he did. I thought he was just being an a** but all the neighbors said the same. So if you want your kid in AAP, its not happening at FHES.


+1000 the principal HATES the AAP program. So glad we left. Best decision ever.
