Also, how do you answer the question "how was work?" From your husband?

What are you going to do if someone you know shows up where you work? Happened to my friend, she ended up giving a lap dance to a mutual friends little brother (we were HS seniors when he was in eighth grade, for a little context) when she was stripping in Vegas in the 90's. She didn't recognize him until it was too late. Awful experience since he told EVERYONE

I get into it. I enjoy it. I just focus on the music and try to entertain.

He's a toddler, so I don't think it would make sense to him. I'm not ashamed of what I do, but I know there's a particularly vicious brand of judgement reserved for women in my position, so I will wait until he's much older and able to be discreet before telling him, if I choose to tell him at all.

that is why I said "sorts of" names. If you read the name threads on this site you'll see that the issue of what is or isn't a "stripper name" comes up often. There is a fear among the middle class that giving your kid the wrong name will doom them to a career like stripping. The most useful thread we ever had on it was one where someone had recently been at a strip club and posted the list of stage names and instead of being what's commonly ID'd here as "stripper names" it was girl-next-door stuff like Amanda. That's all we're asking. Nobody is asking for your or anyone else's PII.



Okay, I see. First of all, DCUM, you're not giving your girls stripper names! I use an actual name, but most of the women I work with use object names: scents, flowers, locations, etc.

What we want to know is whether the women have "stripper names" (in real life, or as stage names). That is all.


I answered this earlier in the thread, but yes, all dancers have stripper names. It is an issue of safety. No one at work knows my real name (save for the hiring manager - you put your real name on the application, of course).


OK, I will explain. Here is a common thing that happens on the name threads for baby girls on the DCUM Expectant Mother forum.

OP: I am considering these names: Brianna, Amberley, Willa.
Response #1: Those are stripper names.
Response #2: Anybody named Brianna, Amberley, or Willa is going to grow up to dance around a pole.

That's what I mean by "stripper name".

Here are some examples of non-"stripper names": Caroline, Anne (with an e), Elizabeth, Mary, Jane; basically, names the English royal family would use.

He does not. It would be uncomfortable for us both.

It has changed my attitude toward sexuality, in some good ways and in some bad ways. I see men as kind of pitiful and sex hungry in a way that I didn't before. However, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, it's also been strangely healing - I have a greater sense of personal power now then I did in the past.
