I agree. Something's off. I too have a wealthy family, went to private schools etc - and though I'm older, this just doesn't feeL right. I actually don't doubt op is what she says, but either she's much younger than she claims or she is shockingly naive and/or very dim.
Op, please take the time of this thread as a not so subtle hint that's it's time to move on from this website.
Tone, not time

Are you an only child?
OP here: My family is from Rhode Island although my grandparents are from Sicily if that matters at all. I'm not an only child, I have two younger siblings.
Funny, I was going to ask if the family wealth was from the "construction" business. I am assuming yes. That explains a lot!

Op here: thanks so much! I really appreciate what a random person on the Internet has to say about me. Thanks again!

You should NEVER give your number to someone you've met online before yoU even know what state they are in! Please do some work on yourself before you end up trusting the wrong guy and your parents are the ones calling the cops because they can't locate you.
Op here: I did not say that I didn't know what state he lived in. I said that I didn't realize how far away he actually was. There are parts of New York that are 2 hours from me, I didn't know he was 4 hours away in New York.
Also, I have many friends who have online dated and they all started out by messaging back and forth and then exchanging numbers before they actually met.
Now you're being dense on purpose. You didn't know what town he lived in before giving out your number. It's still STUPID to give out info like that when you know so little about someone. DH and I also texted before met in person. But I certainly knew where he lived. I can't tell if you're pulling one on us, really this naive, or are just dumb, but please be safer when meeting strangers. You are the exact type of person who is ripe for being sought up by the creeps of the world.
