This is me too.

My sister (a doctor) scared me off -- said she's had so many patients crying in the exam room over nail fungus that won't go away no matter how many medicines and creams they use. She said it's not worth the risk. So I learned to do it myself. I don't do a fabulous job but it's passable, and I know that I'm not at risk for catching something on the off chance the instruments aren't clean.

I have gotten them done in the past so I get the flip side, too. I think my nails and toes look great after a professional job. But I find the urge to go to salons has dwindled. Especially after that series in the NYT.

Never had a pedicure. Had a few manicures around the time of my engagement/wedding.

No real interest. I'm too busy. In life. And with my hands.

Totally agree. I'm in my 40s.

Just like w/cleaning my home, I feel like no one can do as good of a job as I can.

But I do have getting a pedicure on my bucket list regardless.

I am 46.

I'm 31 and have NEVER had a pedicure. I absolute hate anyone and I mean anyone touching my feet.

Manicures I get because it's a stress reliever but pedicures will always be out of the question.

I'm 36 and I've never had one because my fingers are freakishly long and I am too ashamed of my ugly man hands. I would never do anything to draw more attention to my hands. But I envy those of you with tiny hands who can do this sort of thing; I would really like to be able to have a manicure.

I wish I could say me- but no, have all the warts and fungus to prove I had these things. I just spent a lot of pain in the dermatologists office getting warts burned off with a laser that the doctor said most likely came from getting pedicures. Great!

I could count the number of times I've had either on one hand and I'm in my late 40s.

50 and had my first pedi last summer and one last week (for vacation)...I'm hooked !

The biggest waste of money ever. Plus it can be pretty dangerous. The bacteria in those salons is a staph infection waiting to happen and I've known people that it happened to. All it takes is one little nick.

I'm in my 50s and have never had a manicure or pedicure. I do my own nails, keep them short, and only ever use a very sheer, almost clear polish. I'm too much of a germaphobe to go to a salon. If I have extra money, I'd rather spend it on something fun, interesting, delicious, or all three.

I have felt so alone up until this point! I also don't want strangers touching me, and I think the reason so many women have feet fungus is those places. I put a coconut oil/shea butter mix on my feet before bed at the beginning of summer and they look smooth and pretty/ready for toenail polish.

+3 for me, I just wrote on the "unpainted toenails" thread, saying I've rarely had my nails painted. Not needed, and women can still look good. A close friend got a toenail fungus from a salon, and she's been messed up with that for some time (it never has healed properly, I think already going on a year).
