To a PP's question, yes, a principal can allow students into compacted math even if they miss the cutoff. It was done at my school so that they could fill a class. It was considered successful, in that the extra students allowed in did fine.

I don't know what the cutoff is or what my child's score was, though.

I heard at an HGC meeting to contact the home school if you haven't heard by the middle of May.

My child last year did not make it into HGC.
Was also missing one point.
I had to really fight school to get my child in compacted math.
We were studying all summer, showed all work. High MAP score. Nothing worked.
They did not want to take my child...
Eventually I won. My child is completely fine, not even challenged...

It's not because the child went to HGC. That is not a factor.

OP here. I found out cut off has been determined and my child scored above cut off. I don't know what cut off was but I know it was lower than last year because my child's score was lower than last year's cut off.
