Subject: How much do you spend on childcare monthly?
$1300 for 4 year old in NOVA burbs.
We've delayed our plans for baby #2 until DS is in Kindergarden. Not the spacing we wanted but what can we do...

That would be ideal in some ways (if you don't mind kids being that far apart in age- has it's positives/negatives) but biological clock is not on my side- met DH too late in life!

Yeah, I have friends in smaller cities who are appalled at the costs here and pay a lot less. When we have two, my entire salary will pretty much go towards daycare costs for a few years, but long term it's better for me to keep working. But I know of others who just decided to stay at home at that point because costs for two kids would be more than one salary, and just not worth it. A friend who is a teacher is in that boat- she's keeping up with certifications, etc. and hopes to find a teaching job again once her youngest starts kindergarden, but knows that may be hard to do.

About $350 a month - church junior k program - 25 hours a week - am able to flex my hours to fit the other hours of work in

We both work full time and don't have a high HHI (especially compared to other DCUMs) but are crossing our fingers that he'll get into a good charter starting 2016-2017.

2800/mo full time nanny for 1 kid, plus preschool 2 days/week (not sure what it comes out to be monthly since we pay all at once) in Bethesda.

Well, $14 per hour (net) x 55 hours per week + taxes + medical insurance = $4000. Plus she is amazing and has been with us for 6+ years.

I leave for 3-5 hours at a time and alternate babysitters who charge 12 and 15 an hour, respectively. It's a ballpark figure. But, I know! It seems a lot to me too.
