$0, my ILs send one for DD, and I think that's enough. They send it via FTD or similar, so I suspect it's at least $30+. FWIW, I'm not Christian, and DH is agnostic (raised as a methodist).
As a kid, I got one from my aunt and uncle (uncle is Episcopalian, aunt is not) who used to invite us for their Easter dinner. We'd take baskets for our cousins. I can't imagine the baskets we gave and received would cost more than $10-15 today. Just fake grass, candy, and homemade Easter eggs.

175k HHI and maybe 25 bucks on basket contents. We reuse the baskets every year. Three kids and mostly stuff like a few chocolates and then matchbox cars or hair barrettes.

HHI - 250k
Reusing the basket again this year (will probably get a new one in a few years) and spent $60 filling which includes:
About $10 in candy (jelly beans, one large hollow egg with a peep, and another pack of peeps)
$10 - Minnie Mouse Bunny
$20 - Little Mermaid bath playset (realized we haven't bought her a new bath toy since she was born... she's 3)
$8 - Stuffed Pascal toy
$10 - 2 new t-shirts (in 3T, which she desperately needs)
I don't add grass or anything, it's messy and a pain to cleanup. We instead hide the basket and DD has to find it. She loves it! We also have just started using Hoppy Paws (http://hoppypaws.com/). I'm more about creating the magic of it, not buying a lot of crap and candy.

We reuse the same basket I bought at Target 4 years ago for her first Easter.
I put things in it I would be buying for spring/summer anyway. This year it's bubbles, sidewalk chalk, water shoes and a squirt gun. I'll probably toss in some chocolate eggs and call it a day. So maybe $20-$25?

Unless we couldn't afford it, my HHI wouldn't affect how much I spend. I'm a millionaire and I see no point in a $50 basket filled with more than $20 worth of candy and grass.

Well the approximately 70% of the world that is not Christian for one thing….and then also the people who think it is a waste of time and money.
Don't be such a PC sour-puss! Its still a fun thing to do. Even the White House has a egg hunt that everyone can enjoy together.

IN my experience it's my family members who are very low income who make it a priority to have the most over the top basket they can have for their kids. I think it some how makes them feel better.

The point of an Easter basket is to eat my kids candy. One doesn't like jelly beans and one doesn't like Cadbury cream eggs (might have to do a DNA test on that kid to make sure he's mine) so it works out well for me.

Not the norm, though I'll admit to giving some big ticket items on Easter - but they were things my child was getting anyway, like a new bike. Advertising on FB is another story - very tacky.

I'm not religious either, but I don't get the astonishment. Fine if you don't celebrate Easter either religiously or Pagan-style, like I do, but what's the problem?
If I want to celebrate the arrival of spring by providing my kid with some new chalk and a jump rope in an old basket, what's it to you?
