The South terrifies me. I know there is racism everywhere, but there's a really gross combination of overtness, and Southern politeness, that freaks me out.

Reprehensible song, but stop with the double-standard on that word please.

But yet, everyday, there are videos, Worldstar HipHop, of black youths attacking white people, doing drugs, bragging about cheating EBT cards, fathering kids, etc., but that is untouchable because...?
These kids made mistake. These kids' parents are probably pretty sick of paying full tuition to support diversity, which equates to a bunch of criminals going to college to start lawsuits. You watch at how the school will get sued in the coming weeks.

Oklahoma is not in the south.[/quote]
Yes it is.

No it's not. Just because a gross thing happened there and you already hate the south doesn't magically make it the south. It's the midwest.

that is naive. I'm a white male in my 40s. When I was in my early 20s, all of my favorite songs and movies were littered with the N word. Talking about Snoop, Dre, NWA, Cube for music. Maybe some Ghetto Boys and Bushwhack Bill. And for movies - maybe Pulp Fiction, etc.
It was a huge part of my vocabulary only because I mimicked what I heard constantly.
You excuse this by saying you didn't have enough sense in your 20s? Were you a parrot?
I'm in my 40s too, also white, also listened to much of the same music and watched the same movies. I guess it boils down to how people are raised, what they heard their parents say and the expectations of them because if you are raised to be a tolerant person those values generally stay with you even during college. It's about being a decent human being. He used the word with white friends. To those who have misused their free speech in such a reprehensible way, I have a message for you. You are disgraceful. You have violated all that we stand for. You should not have the privilege of calling yourselves "Sooners." Sooners are not racist. Real Sooners are not bigots. Real Sooners believe in equal opportunity. Real Sooners treat all people with respect. Real Sooners love each other take care of each other like family members.
Effective immediately, all ties and affiliations between this University and the local SAE chapter are hereby severed. I direct that the house be closed and that members will remove their personal belongings from the house by midnight tomorrow. Those needing to make special arrangements for positions shall contact the Dean of Students.
All of us will redouble our efforts to create the strongest sense of family and community. We vow that we will be an example to the entire country of how to deal with this issue. There must be a zero tolerance for racism everywhere in our nation.
President Boren
David Boden is a class act. I love it when he reiterates that real Sooners set a positive example and racist behavior is not what they stand for. Of course, there will be those who will hate him, but he's a man of conviction and can handle it.
OU should be proud they have a president of Boren's caliber.
LOL! Love this. You made my day.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think if we want the word n**** struck from the English language, it should start with black folk setting an example.

I love this argument. It's usually from people who are upset that they cannot use the word. PP, why do you care who gets to use the word? It's wrong and unless you are dying to use it, it shouldn't concern you. Let idiots be idiots and go on with your life. But, if you really want to use it, I give you my permission. Just be willing to pay the consequences. Your free speech rights are protected so that means you won't get arrested. Anything else that happens is fair game
Right... although I do not use it, the PP should feel free to use it as they see fit. And when they are on the verge of getting their teeth knocked out, they should state that they thought it was Ok because they heard some AA's use it with each other. I am sure the person getting ready to kick her butt will see the merit of that argument.
