We had a sectional that lasted about 10 years which was what we were looking for - wanted it while kids were younger and now that they’re grown we use the room differently and don’t want a sectional. We replaced it with furniture from Bob’s because we’re moving in 7years so I don’t need something for long term and I am happy with fully furnishing my living room for $1500.
So I guess what it comes down to for me is that I’m not interested in furniture that lasts decades so Bob’s is great for my family. If I was looking for my forever furniture I’d spend more money and get something different.
For couches specifically, I feel like it’s impossible to really know what will be comfortable enough to spend at more than a Bobs or Ikea level. For other furniture, you can assess pretty easily whether it’s sturdy or not, and the Bobs stuff is fine. The only furniture that seems truly worth investing in is bookshelves and dressers that are made with better quality wood for durability. The rest is all aesthetic preferences.
