You aren't likely to rknow unless you golf. We belong to a country club and I never mention it to people who aren't members to avoid reactions like those in this thread, and because it is not a big part of our life, dh uses it to play golf with his family and we go to the pool a few times in the summer.

Back to the OP's question. We belong to Chevy and my DCs have classmates that are members. However, they are not close friends or really even very friendly with the kids who are members. You are making so many assumptions about Sidwell and your kids future friends. Join the Club if it appeals to you, we get a lot out of it (pool, skating, tennis, paddle, bowling, fitness, friends, meals/events) but don't join based on assumptions that may not be accurate.

+1 when people say they grew up there just gives me pause that they are part of the group that condoned the racism.
