I agree with the other PPs--that your mind was already made up about sending him, so why bother to be peeved.

You seem to be way too enamored with the couple's generous ski budget. Many families invite their children's friends to accompany them on lavish vacations and would never stiff a kid with a last minute, first- class ticket change.

Asking a guest to pay for a last minute flight change is crude and second-class.

No cheaper ways to get there other than changing flights, its not worth it (busiest ski holiday of the year)...it is what it is as the saying goes. I am entitled to feel annoyed but at the same time grateful that my son gets to take such a special trip.

Look up one way flight on other airlines. There might be a cheaper flight he can take than this upgrade situation. Is the flight 1060 more than the 600 or 440 more. If 440 more I'd suck it up. Vc

I don't believe the family about the first class tickets. First class for 5 people is much harder to find than coach tickets anywhere. Do your own research, put him in coach or another flight.

Agree canceling or even the suggestions is irid8uclous and a sure way to punish your son for something he had no control over. ONLY if you literally did not have $1000 to cough up would that have been OK. I am also surprised at those who suggest leaving a 16 year old in a hotel by himself, who ARE YOU PEOPLE?

Canceling is not a punishment for your son, although it might be a learning experience for him, that some rich people are flakey as well as rude and inconsiderate. Canceling would just be reality. What other last-minute expenses will they spring on you? Now you know how they operate.

But the actual money involved isn't an issue for you. So there's no reason to cancel. Just make sure you provide DS with lots of extra spending money when you send him m, just in case.

hi OP here, first a few things the airport is over an hour away, so I am not going to ask them to go out of their way since they are being so generous to begin with.

Secondly they are not staying in a condo but have gotten 3 rooms at a very expensive hotel. (I have found out recently)

Last to anyone who has suggested that we cancel this trip for my son, I would never do that. He has so looked forward to this and it is not his fault, why would I punish him! i am stunned that two people suggested that.

I am not going to question why she does not stay back with the kids and let her husband fly out alone, that is really not my place and it is not my personality to ask that nor is it really my business, the point is they need to come back a day early.

I think my initial reaction when she called said a lot, it was a knee jerk reaction but I said WOW that is so much more but at the same time there was not much time to think as its one of the busiest days to travel back and as is, there were only a handful of first class seats.

I started this just curious to see how others would have reacted if my being peeved was justified even though they are obviously being extremely generous to take him away for 8 days skiing I know the lift tickets, hotels, meals, etc....are very expensive.

Rude of them to not offer to pay the additional flight charges because of their change of plans. But overall they are being very generous so I'd pay it if I could.

Domestic first class is not a big deal. Just slightly larger seats in a tin can.

Is this the same poster where the vacation is at little Nell in aspen? If so. Pay the 1k and be quiet!! They are spending alot more than that on your kid !

Op has the money and isn't even concerned about the money... Rich friends since they are rich too.. It seems like it's the principle that got her upset..

Most likely they got a condo or something, and the extra person staying in it doesn't cost them any extra. The real cost to them is lift tickets and meals.

Are you kidding me? Two of the kids are teens. It is not that hard. Lame excuse. They should have kept the plans and plane tickets and let the Dad fly home earlier.
