I would have laughed and said "You're so funny!"

If she pressed the issue I would have rolled my eyes and said, "Jane, be serious. The kids are 4. No one cares about the theme" and changed the topic.

Does it bother your or does it just bother your friend? Many people have a lot of opinions. But if you want to make your child happy, you go with what she wants because it's easier to do that than to convince her about following the THEME.

We have had several bouncy house parties with princess themed cakes, chosen by my daughters. I guess my kids did not get the memo. But I did attend a party where the birthday boy cried because his mom did not get the Batman napkins we wanted. Not kidding.

Whatever would you friend think of me...we've had a Scooby Doo cake at a gymnastics studio, airplanes at a bouncy place, Spongebob at Laser tag, and even plain (unthemed!) cake/cupcakes at a trampoline place and at roller skaing!
