There's been a lot of bloodletting in recent years at law firms of all tiers, including among Big Law "partners" (whatever that catchall terms means anymore as there are so many different flavors of partners). There is lots of competition for in-house opportunities, especially in this area, and the federal government is often slow to hire. I personally know of several seasoned Ivy League law school grads, including 2 from Harvard, who are having trouble finding full time work.
Our LF recently went through a hiring process. We interviewed a candidate with a "double Ivy degree" (undergrad and law school). Candidate was a "dud". We went with an non Ivy candidate. Says it all.
