I'd say that the risk of your child being stabbed while in any school in Montgomery County is as close to zero as it can get without actually being zero.
Actually, a girl in my daughter's class at WJ was stabbed with scissors by another girl last Spring. So much for being able to protect your kids by choosing a "W" school.
Seriously, though, WJ is a pretty safe school overall.

More pressure at Wootton/Churchill/Whitman/BCC/WJ to do the scripts, smoke the grass, drive drunk and have sex with every classmate because EVERYONE there is doing it. I am constantly amazed at the lack of individuality at the "W" schools. These kids are super competitive with each other but will also do EXACTLY what their friends are doing because they are scared to be rejected. I work at one and I see it everyday.
I think people are impressed by the high test scores, the "nice/neat" looking kids, and general lack of disruptive behavior in class that you see in the lower performing schools. But you look under the rug, and it's pretty ugly. And, parents really don't see what's under the rug, only what they can see on the surface. Only the "workers" see what's under the rug.

I am pretty sure the ICE detention center comment referred to the number of Hispanic children present in the school. In that, it reminded the poster of such a detention center I suppose.

i have a kid at BCC and I am really shocked at the amount of drug use and the availability of drugs and alcohol for many kids.
I have another kid in the DCC and there are drugs there, too, but it's much easier for kids to separate themselves from that scene. At BCC, it's everywhere.

That is because the county does not see it as a priority. They only heavily fund schools the exec's send their kids too.
It doesn't matter which school you choose. All have drugs, alcohol, gangs, kids with mental health issues, parents and teachers with mental health issues. The main difference is there is more money in the "w" schools so the drug use is more easily hidden with fancy cloths, cars, and parents willing to cover it up.
I don't think the bolded part is true. The county spends a lot more on poor performing schools than the higher ones. But I agree with everything else.
