I, too, am HLS. No dog in the fight this year but coming up in a few years. Do you mind if I ask if your DH gave a lot of money to either undergrad or grad at Harvard and do you think it made a difference? What I can give is nowhere near the six and seven digit figure I'm hearing that actually may make a difference for DC (who has all the other necessary credentials in their own right).

You should read the book "The Price of Admissions..." that will answer your question.....

My college roommate's son got accepted to Harvard, EA. No legacy, no hook that I know of, and he's white. He goes to a extremely small school in rural Wisconsin (like the type of town where there are more cows than people), where getting into an Ivy is almost unheard of- getting into UW-Madison is a huge deal. I was really happy for him.

Really glad to hear this.

I have a friend who Harvard tried to 'extort' money from, i.e. 'we will let your kid in, if you donate X'. Pretty shitty behavior if you ask me. He passed.

My DD has a few friends who were denied/deferred from Duke who, according to Naviance, had great chances for admission.

Denied, not deferred. Going somewhere else definitely.

Legacy status or not?
I'd love if everyone posted with legacy or not.

No surprise. They probably didn't 'fit the costume', i.e. the demographics were wrong for that child for that year.

No kid should take a rejection personally anymore. The whole process is so politically charged, that the reason they were rejected was most likely out of their hands anyway.

Wanna bet? Binghamton University (aka SUNY Binghamton) is an excellent school. Growing up in NY, it was the dream school for many kids from NYC, downstate and Long Island. I had a few friends turn down Cornell in favor of Binghamton.
+1. Not from NY but have heard of the school. It's not some obscure school.

PP here. I forgot to mention that the Watson School is very highly regarded in the technology world. It's name giver, Thomas Watson, had a modest amount of success with a little technology company he founded called Inernational Time Machines.

They really wanted my daughter. She didn't want to apply. I wish she had - congratulations. I hear it's a lovely school!

What are Tulane's particular strengths? Are there any unique programs?

No.

Ignorant. But that's no surprise here.

You can't come on an anonymous forum, brag, and expect adulation. It doesn't work that way.

But congratulations. My cousin went to Tulane and loved it. He came from a small town and NOLA was a good change for him.

I don't think you understand the word "brag."
