Yet schools like Gaithersburg and Magruder do have million dollar plus homes that feed into them-I guess just not enough given all the lower income apartments that feed into them as well. Same with Rockville and Einstein-all of these schools have the potential to be great and are in great locations in terms of commuting into the city.

PP here - I agree with your last point. Whether people consider the changing dynamics of MCPS an open question or not is irrelevant to many families. What they need to understand, howeer, is how the MCPS as a whole is changing and make informed decisions they feel comfortable with.

The "poor"minority schools suck because they have unmotivated, underacheivers (along with high crime and drug use). The "rich" schools suck because they have ovely competitive, overachieivers (along with a strong sense of entitlement, materialism, snobbery and drug use). The key to a good school is true balance and true diversity.

I once saw a study (not recent) that calculated the reationship between farms rate and SAT scores. So for each change in FARMS/SAT scores would change X percent (can't recall) with equal resources etc. Using this equation the researchers could adjust for the effect of wealth seperate from quality of education. Which MCPS came out with the highest adjusted scores? Wheaton.
