Not everyone wants to live in a tiny house in an area with poor schools, and be surrounded by a bunch of crunchy hippies. Just because someone is gay, doesn't mean they're a hippie. I looked in Takoma Park when I was buying, and I found the houses to be tiny, the yards sloppily maintained, and the driveways tiny or non-existent.


thanks, Takoma park pretty much sucks ass for modern sophisticated and tidy gay couples. People talk about it like it's amazing but in reality it's a piece of crap.



OP here-10 years ago we looked at Takoma park-the homes were tiny (and overpriced), Piney Branch (near Flower Ave) looked like a crowded 3rd world country, and it bordered some questionable looking neighborhoods-I know the schools have decent reps-TPES, TPMS and Blair-but it still does not seem so great to me. The hippies can be just as annoying as the snobs of Bethesda so a decent mix would be ok-ya know cause "diversity".


Wow, OP, for someone looking for a gay-friendly neighborhood, you don't seem to mind flying the flag for other kinds of bigotry.

Capitol Hill is gay friendly with many homes occupied by gay couples, but it doesn't wear that on its sleeve -- people won't think "Oh, yeah, that gay neighborhood." Schools are a mixed bag -- public for the adventurous, charters for those less so, and a wide variety of private schools accessible on Metrorail's red, blue, orange, or silver lines.

Takoma Park ES has a significant testing disparity for black and brown kids, so it is not great for every one. The last year the school gave the test was 2012 but I wonder if things have changed much. If the OP is of color, there are other schools that do a better job, Veirs Mill being one of them.

OP -- how old are your kids? According to the Post, Crestwood is the third gayest neighborhood in DC and currently IB for Deal and Wilson, and IB for Deal until a new MS gets built or the new mayor changes the DME boundary plan. Lots of lovely homes with nice yards, friendly community with many families, easy commute to downtown, and immediate proximity to Rock Creek Park. My family loves living here.
