My experience is that's it's boring and soul crushing. To know you only have two hrs of work a day but have to sit in a chair for 8, not seeing your kids..

Um, find some more work to do.

What a dumb reply. I have the same problem, not enough work to keep me busy the entire day. Sometimes there just isn't anything else to do. People in my office take two hour lunches, folks sneak out early, go to the doctor, do all kinds of stuff during the day because none of us 40 hours of work really. Some people think it's a dream but it does suck. My Dh used always get on me about complaining about my job until he ended up in a similar job. Some people want to actually be able to use their brain during the day for something other than web surfing.

Same here. Have always worked in an administrative capacity. The boredom was absolutely soul-crushing. I couldn't reconcile being away from my family for 10 hours a day just to stare at a computer screen and web surf all day. My job was inflexible and did not allow p/t schedules. I'd finally had enough and I quit a month ago. I now run my own small business. Best decision I ever made. Being unproductive is absolutely soul-crushing. It definitely can be more stressful than having a really busy job.

What field are you all in that you can get everything done so quickly and be bored at work? I think that would drive me up the wall after awhile.

Not PP you quoted but I work in a research office for a university. I have this kind of job. Its enough work that it can't be folded into someone else's job (and it really is its own function) but its truly not enough for an actual FT position. I actually negotiated a part time schedule 65% time to have more time with the baby since my husband is in a 55-60 hour a week position and for now its nice that one of us can spend a little more time with him. But its still so boring. Someday I hope to have something interesting to do. I have 1 busy week about every 6 weeks because of the nature of the office I work for
