Does the crib convert to a toddler bed? If so use a guard rail and convert it. It will be the same bed. Same position. If not try to see whether putting the toddler bed in the exact same location as the crib will work. She sounds sweet. DH’s niece was exactly the same

I think most parents would have taken the crib away by now. She's got you wrapped around her little finger and she knows it. You're in for a tough, tough life if you can't say no.

My four year old didn't want to get out of his crib. Who cares? This just isn't an argument i'm going to have. As long as they aren't trying to get on and risk falling, why does it matter?

Is she still in a nappy too?

Problem: child falls/trips climbing out of the crib at night and is hurt or knocked unconscious. Parents are sleep. This is the main reason that they say to get rid of crib once the kid starts climbing.

I haven't read beyond the first couple of posts (I imagine this devolving in some way), but I can see keeping my twins' cribs for a while because of exactly this issue: we have a small house and they share a small room. We might just take one side off their Ikea cribs and let them sleep in them until they are too tall for the cribs and hopefully old enough to share a low bunk bed.

OP again. DD is now in a twin bed. Made the switch on Thursday with zero problems (it helped that I had new sheets of her favorite characters). I was so afraid she would be really upset. Lesson learned! I am thrilled she is in a bed. ?

A-ok by me. What's the point of changing?

Well, for me it's that I like snuggling my kids. So I explained that I can do story time better in a big bed.

Vioala, no problem with the switch.

What happens when you travel? Does she sleep in a regular bed OK? And then she wants to be back to her crib at home?

I would just be concerned about falling. I was always told by my Drs that climbing in and out of the crib was dangerous so transition to a bed as soon as possible after they could climb out.

OP here. Wow. Didn't think I would have so many responses. DD has been able to climb into and out of the crib since she was 18 months old so she can get up at night to go to the bathroom (or wander). Lots of food for thought here. Lots of differing opinions. Thank you all.

OP, the minute your kid starts thinking about sleepovers, she'll be happy to change. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I slept in a crib until I was 5 (big family, small house, so space!) No lasting damage.
