The US is spearheading the medical aid to West Africa. Many countries are sending doctors and supplies, but the US has made the largest pledges. If his criticism spurs other countries to act, then that will benefit West Africa and us.

It is uncontained in Sierra Leone and Liberia. It's not uncontained worldwide.

If Uganda can contain Marburg, I think Texas and Spain can handle one case of Ebola.

As for money to be made with effective Ebola treatments, I don't know why you think that. Because the US is sending troops and medical supplies to Sierra Leone and Liberia, suddenly there's lots of money in West Africa? They're still pretty poor there.

It's too late to contain it worldwide. The question is how quickly will it spread and how many will die. The only real hope is development of an effective vaccine -- which may be a long way off -- or of a drug that tempers the virus, as ZMAPP appears to do. But it's going to be a long time before ZMAPP can be produced in sufficient quantities to catch up to the spread of Ebola. On the other hand, it should be clear now that there will be money to be made in coming up with effective Ebola treatments, and the lure of a big payday has a way of motivating vaccine and drug development.

Hospitals hardly have enough beds as it is. And there are so few Drs in this country.

The criticism lies with him for letting it go this far. He's been warned since last March to get a handle on this. He waited until it showed up on our soil--- and still waiting. Ban flights from West Aftica or put them all in quarantine for 21 days upon landing.

Non-essential travel to and from West Africa should be banned.



I am an Obama supporter, but I have to agree with this. He often waits until the last minute to act. In this case, he waited too long.

I agree with quarantining all travelers from Ebola-stricken countries, but that won't stop the spread of Ebola worldwide. We have to help the African countries that can't handle the outbreak on their own. This would have been a fairly small operation months ago, but the epidemic has become so huge that it's going to cost billions and require a major international effort to stop it.

I predict the situation will get worse before it gets better because political leaders won't be able to figure out how to work together to stop this thing, and they won't want to expend the necessary resources in poor African countries needed to end the epidemic.

Even if we keep Ebola contained in the US, many countries won't be able to do so, and the epidemic will spread. I wouldn't panic, but I'd give support to our leaders to do what needs to be done internationally to put an end to the epidemic of this ghastly disease now.
