Exactly -- small honeycomb floor tiles.

The wainscoting is totally fine, not banged up and ruined. It's been up for almost 10 years. I'm not surprised that it's in good shape since I used to live in a Victorian house that had original wainscoting in the bathroom that was also just fine. Painted wainscoting is very sturdy!

I'd consider that black tile border a pretty classic look.


I do think it's a nice look and very european, however, I just stayed at my friend's beautiful apartment and her marble bathrooms are death traps. SO SLIPPERY.

Looks like basket weave marble to me. Not subway tile.

Too much marble for me, but I like elements for sure.

For those declaring they like big tiles for the shower, show us pics. I can't think of any big ones that don't feel already dated to me.

If subway tile or basket weave marble isn't classic, what is? Tan or brown limestone everywhere already seems "out@ to me.

Classic may be quality materials, whatever they are (natural stones) used wisely into the overall design. Personally I like bathrooms made to look a little like rooms, with nice trim etc.

I think OP said "existing" wood floors, so he/she may have made a choice based on something other than aesthetic. Possibly cheaper to keep them and, if something goes wrong, just replace then.
