Native Detroiter here. PLEASE do not base your view of all citizines of Detroit on some negative media reports of a few people. The majority of the citizens there are law abiding people who want to see the City turn around. On the real estate front, there are some very exciting things going on there and young professionals, of all races, are moving back downtown. It is a shame that a city that helped make this country a world power gets so much scorn from outsiders. Besides that, the suburbs are doing pretty well there and always have.

You don't consider this verification on the $6.5 million dollar purchase in NYC? I am sure if you don't believe the articles, you can google the agent who works at Sotheby's in NYC and verify directly with him.
Who cares WHO buys here as long as the economy continues to thrive? I am amazed by some of the numb skulls on the real estate boards who seemingly want the market to tank and constantly predict doom and gloom.

The DC area has attracted the rich and powerful from all over the world for decades. In addition to rich Chinese, the area has a healthy population of wealthy Indians and middle easterners.

Misplaced confidence in one's own gut-intuition? Having foreigners own our assets is probably one of the best ways possible to protect our country from foreign attack. China has much less of an appetite to bomb us when they make so much money off their investments in our national debt and real estate, for example.
Other positive implications of foreigners buying our assets is that it helps U.S. sellers get top-dollar for their assets, and it brings new ideas and wealthy contributors to our economy.
