I'm southern, never heard anyone call their father Big Daddy but if I did it would mean someone well known in the community and wealthy.
In our house Dad is Pop, Mom is Ma, Grandma and Grandpa respectfully, my grandson calls me Maw which I hate but I love him so he can call me whatever he wants, my grand daughter calls me Me Me. Don't care for that either but okay.
Grandmere pronounce French fits me better.

I am born and raised in Richmond and have NEVER heard anyone in RVA use that term. Ever. My entire extended family still lives there and my sister's kids call my father "grandpa"

The only person I know who has their kids call the grandfather Big Daddy is from New Jersey.

The south is weird.

I grew up in Texas. On my mother's side of the family we, and all my many aunts, uncles and cousins, all called my mother's parents Big Daddy and Big Mama. I did not hear anyone else use these names until I saw "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". My father was from Pennsylvania. We called his parents Mammy and Pappy.

It's not common, but not unheard of to call a grand parent "big daddy".

Also, I didn't know that "daddy" was something sexual until
I started reading this board. I'm in my 40s and not a puritan. But I also do not watch porn.

So I think those of you who have sexualized "daddy" it says more about you than the 70year olds who think nothing of the term.

It’s not widespread but it doesn’t surprise me. My grandparents were Poppy and Honey.

I’m 6th gen southerner from Kentucky to north Texas. I called my grandparents big mama and big daddy. My maternal line also came from Kentucky to north Texas and they call their grandparents big daddy and big mama.

I call my husband big daddy

My family is from MIssissippi. My father- from Texas with some Haitian roots- had us call our grandparents Madea and Big Daddy.
I was raised in Ny so only met one other Madea until Tyler Perry
