That is awesome for you. It's not the route we are taking. Why would I not take the option of it's there? What message would I be sending dropping my kid off at an awful school each day?! New Poster. I am IB for a truly awful school, which my daughter attends. I would never consider what OP is suggesting. What kind of message would that send to my child? We don't have a city-wide lottery. It was suggested and it failed. If you want a guaranteed right to go to a great school, then you actually have to live in the boundary. Otherwise, get in OOB or move to where you can afford to be Ib for a good school (further out 'burbs for us).

I want to say that's great, but I'm no more inclined to judge the decisions you make for your family than I am of anyone else's because I don't want you judging mine. My kid is also going IB to a so-so school (still with an OOB wait list) and I'm so focused on getting involved and doing what we can to contribute to our neighborhood school that I don't have time or desire to get uptight about where other kids live. And I'm not looking for a pat on the back.

As for what kids see and learn, I have more concern for the ones who are OOB at a school - and legitimately so - being under constant stgma and scrutiny. What are we teaching them?

To me the worst part is the message you are sending to your kid and your values. I am working to make my extremely low performing school better for all kids and, if I fail, I will move to where I can afford to live and send my kid to a good school.

No it's not. The crux of the issue is that I'm not sending my kid to a crap school so that a bunch of righteous a@$holes won't think I'm bad. And really- you have never used connections to get a job ect.? That's bullshit.

This is really the crux of the issue, to me. It's not okay to lie and cheat. You can tell yourself you're doing it "for your family," but you're still lying and cheating.

Read that thread on the history of OOB. People have been moving around to find the best possible school option for generations. The flip side of your argument about what parents will do is that those families who remain in failing schools "don't value education." It's repeated on these forums so much, you'd think it were fact.

Public education is a resource for the public. We're all paying taxes for it - even families who send their kids to private schools. Which is where you should be so long as you think elitism is a virtue.

OP, if you do what you laid out you will be committing fraud and breaking the law. Anything can be rationalized but that is the bottom line. Sorry.
