As a black person, this is why I find rap music disturbing! People think that they get special passes to spit out racist, homophobic, and misogynistic venom. Even without the use of the n-word, rap music degrades and exploits women of color. Yes, there is a "very small percentage" of rap artists (which the mainstream music industry doesn't promote) who have positive messages. However, the majority of rap music is poisonous on so many levels. People who support and patronage abuse in the mask of art are sick! If you find it impossible to not use the n-word, then maybe you need to began listening to music which doesn't promote stereotypes. If you're black and listen to this crap, then your parents didn't raise you right. If you're white and listen to this crap, then you are embracing the degradation of black people.
Using the n-word is not cool! It is disgusting and deplorable no matter who uses it.![]()

Used to use it all the time with my friends as a teenager. Stopped immediately when a road rager said it to me with malice. I cannot describe the feelings I had that day. I still remember the incident vividly.
So...no...I do not say it and it is not allowed to be said in our home. I am not naive to think that my 4 teens do not say it with their friends, but they have heard ad nauseum our objections about the word.

Have you ever considered why your favorite songs feature the N word so heavily?
None of my favorite songs have any racial, ethnic, or religious slurs in them.
Would you feel as comfortable rapping to a song that used "k*ke", "w*tback", "c*nt", or "f*ggot"?
Do you feel you get a pass because a black person wrote the song and is singing it? If so, how would you feel about a female artist singing a song that referred to herself and/or other women using misogynistic slurs?

Black person here! It's totally unacceptable for anyone to use it especially a black person. I will not associate with anyone who uses the n-word.
Anonymous wrote:Never. I'm a racial minority and know the effect of hearing racial slurs so no way would I perpetuate that in someone else.
