Behavior notes don't change behavior. Every study will tell you positive consequences and rewards change behavior, not negative.

Seriously PP, it was in jest. But sometimes, yea I think such kids need spankings. Do you volunteer at your kid's school lunches/recess? Have you ever dealt with out of control, disrespectful kids that bother other kids? So tell me, if you came across an ES student who was bothering your child during lunch, and you asked this kid politely to stop and this kid just laughed at you and ignored what you said, what would you do? Give the child a note? This kid is like this every time I see this kid. I'm venturing to guess that no amount of notes this kid has received is changing the kid's behavior. I have a higher tolerance for bad behavior from kids that are not mine, but this kid would try the patience of a saint. If you have a such a kid, discipline your kids and don't expect the people at school to do it for you.

Perhaps move this kid to another location. Maybe the noise and crowdedness bothers him and he needs a different eating situation. The school admin. should be looking for a solution and not just let it roll. And, a note a day or even weekly is not going to do the trick.

Yes, lunch of K or 1st graders can be a zoo, but this was over the top to me.

No wonder some of these schools don't want parents in the school participating or helping out, b/c we might actually see what's going on behind the curtain!

We left RP last year and moved to another public school.
I liked the teachers and the parents at RP. Good families.
The parking is not too bad, you can park on the street.
HOWEVER, I must say that the pricipal is not well liked. I did not like her. We had my son in an enrichment program after school for science. We had to pull him out when he complained about the teacher being really mean. We spoke with the people who ran the science program and they said that the teacher was indeed strict, but only because the PRINCIPAL of RP told her that she needed to be really firm with "these kids". That is, RP students can get out of hand if you aren't firm. ?%$#? The principal is setting the foundation for bad relationships.

RP is over crowded. The lunch room sometimes has no free tables. Where would you isolate this child in the lunchroom? If you have several kids that are acting out at lunch, I don't think there's enough rooms in the school to separate each child to eat alone, plus you'd have to staff each room to supervise the child.

The only thing they seem to be able to do is give the kid a bad note, which the parent is supposed to sign. IMO, it's the parent that should be disciplining the child. I wonder if these kids get disciplined at home for the note or do the parents just lecture them, sign the note and that's the end of it. I've had both my kids get a note from the lunch lady, but only once. They both got disciplined at home for the note. I'm not saying the staff are great. I'm just saying the parents are equally, if not more, responsible to make sure the kids behave at school, whether in the class, lunch or recess.

I hate it when people have nothing else to post than correcting someone's grammar or spelling. It's a forum, not the freakin' Harvard Law review. People type on tablets or smartphones which is hard to type on or autocorrects. I type really quickly and don't review everything I type. It seems people who have nothing else to contribute usually pick on these aspects of the PP. If you have nothing else to contribute, just stop posting.

I don't think anyone has stated that RP is an amazing school, just that's it's not horrible like some people are making it out to be. Like a PP stated, every school has issues, and there are some schools that might be better than RP and others that are worse.

RP is very diverse, both racially and SES. I like that about it. It's over crowded - I hate this about it. Most of the teachers so far that we've experienced have been great; they are not perfect, but they saw the potential in my kids and kept pushing them up. Maybe some of it was enrichment at home, but the teachers still saw the potential and challenged them instead of dumbing them down. For now, that's all I can ask for in the teachers. Plus, this year, both my DCs absolutely love their teachers - so this helps. I don't know what's going to happen next year. Maybe DCs will hate it. We'll see.
