Seriously, OP. This is a jokey piece. And the thing is that people will either think it's cheap or they will know exactly what it is and it's a little embarrassing for people to know you spent that kind of money on a fad, big name piece of jewelry.

A friend of mine just bought a new car and knowing how ostentatious it is, I have lost all respect for him. Get something nice that people wont' automatically know how much it's worth.

You lost "all respect" for someone because of a car they purchased? You are the petty, status-obsessed one. I bet that car isn't as important to him as it is to you.

+1

That's nuts, pp. Unless he's starving his family and keeping them naked so he can afford his new car OR is constantly reminding you of the car's price tag, I cannot figure out why you care so much.

I thought Cartier had become synonymous with KardShian. Shudder. Spend wisely

If I were going to do a troll post, "I want to buy a 40K bracelet that's shaped like a nail" would be perfect.

Love it, OP, whoever you are and whatever you decide to do.

Who knows. Maybe they're not as rich as the OP. Whatever the case if the bracelet is a super small percentage of their wealth/income I suppose it doesn't matter. After all it's relative. I know I could swing maybe a $4k bracelet and there are plenty of people making at least 10 x what I make.

If you want to argue that's glam and not just tacky that's fine, but it is about 1,000 miles away from goth/punk.

+100000000000000000000000

Nothing says conservative asshole like a $40k piece of jewelry.

so true (unless you're a French supermodel married to a VC billionaire or Mick Jagger)

Good thing we're all allowed to be different and like different things. My husband and I worked hard to build a business together over the last 29 years and unless something changes between now and this weekend, I should have my JuC. His encouragement along with some salient points made on this thread helped me decide.

I have some valuable items that I inherited along with gifts from my husband but I have never purchased any for myself. This will be my first and marks an important moment for me.

Because some people seem to care about our giving, you'll be happy to know that we've done well and currently give 50% of our income to various charitable endeavors and when we're both gone the family estate will go towards funding those same philanthropic concerns.

But it's just SUCH an ugly bracelet!!
Get a hold of yourself woman.

Probably a smidge more than $40k though

Don't bother with the incredibly rude posters, OP. Good job on working so hard and apparently saving so much Oh and your husband rocks!

Me too, but my idea of a "splurge" is $150 or if I'm feeling really flush and want to make a big purchase then a couple of times in my life I've gone up to a few hundred. $40k though? That's nuts. Just think of all the things you could do with that money. To put it in context, the amount of after tax money that our family of four lives on in a year is not much more than that.
