That's great. But you do know that some people who have larger rings or spent more could also buy a house and pay it off at the same rate. Not trying to call you out, but you shouldn't feel like you have to justify your wedding/engagement ring. If they are what you want, that is all that matters. And you shouldnt assume those with more expensive rings did so at the expense of buying other stuff (like a house, etc)
That doesn't change the facts that they chose to spend money on a house that has TRIPLED in value instead of an overpriced depreciating asset.
Yes, but the point still stands that some people can do both.

Sorry, I'm grossed out by huge displays of wealth like that. I decided against having a "puny stone" all together because I every engagement ring I've ever seen is not my taste at all. The whole thing also smacks of consumerism and buying into the diamond/jewelry industry's sick agenda and it's like some pissing contest between women and men.
Whenever I see a woman with a huge diamond, I figure her husband must conversely have a very small dick.

My engagement ring was around $3000, band was $500 or so, and then I added a wrap-around sapphire thing later. But now, years later, I just resized a sapphire plain band I got as a birthday present from my parents many years ago to wear on other occasions. I'll probably start wearing that more. i'm less into jewelry the older I get.

I got married at 23, first kid at 24 then another at 26.
I got a 10k ring and our 800k house was painful off when I was 30. I am 38 now.
Some people can have it all.
Some people feel there is more to life than paying down a mortgage.

I posted upthread about mine that is worth 20k. I know because we have it insured and it had to be appraised and all that stuff. After 15 years of shared finances I just don't think it's a big deal anymore.
My stone is a little less than 2 carats and I don't think it looks gaudy. I don't know. I never would have spent that much on a ring, but it is truly a beautiful diamond. People stop me in grocery stores, post offices, etc. and comment on it. I am happy to know that one day we will be able to pass it on to a son or daughter.
Because they will want your hand me down....

Engagement ring 12k wedding band 1100 from Tiffany. Plus matching his and hers rolexes as wedding presents to each other. Love having them since I wear them every day - and I'm not really an accessories girl.

No, because he spent so much on it. He really couldn't afford it at the time. He put it on a credit card and it took him a long time to pay it off.
I love the ring. And it's paid off now.

Yes, I have spent money on dumber things that don't last. At least a ring lasts forever.

Then you might as well buy a created diamond and give the difference to charity or even invest it. What's the point in paying $25000 for a "real" stone if it depreciates instantly and loos no different than a created stone? Does it make you feel like your DH loves you more? I honestly don't get it.
I want a nice real ring, I don't want to donate to charity.
