I don't think the first ones are terrible, but I'm not excited by them either - it could go either way depending on the outfit you wore with them. Second pair look a lot more stylish.

How about Circa by Joan and David Payton Platform Wedge Sandals in Light Tobacco from Macy's? They're on sale too. And btw, I like the first LE link you posted. Granted they don't scream high fashion but for everyday neutral comfort shoes I would consider them.

I don't really like the lands end shoes. I am a cork wearing fiend and also love my korkease Avas but not the lower ones as much. They are comfy, but frumpy. You might as well buy birks.

I've had my eye on some of the mephisto wedges that are out. I know you said you didn't want to spend $$$ but an investment shoe may be worth it.

For less $$, I would try Onex. Are they old lady? Maybe. I call them "palm beach county" style.
