Spanish-speaking non-Hispanics no. Spanish-speaking Hispanics, yes. That's why they're funneling more wealthy, higher-SES families into a Ward 1 school. Cardozo may score a lowly 2 out of 10 on Great Schools, but it has a 30% Hispanic population and is 53% FARMS. Sending OA into Cardozo will likely provide a boost in test scores, but not a significant enough change in demographics to jeopardize the ongoing receipt of Title I funds.

It seems that DME, DPCS and the Mayor's office don't have much respect for Spanish-speakers.

How would they balance the spanish dominance with such an increased IB area? I suppose there are bigger issues afoot, but that was one of the selling points for the school, was it not?

Don't worry. Empty nesters, childless gay or hetero couples will buy your house. DC won't mind -- they pay high taxes and consume way fewer services than pesky families with kids.
