They are saving so that they can travel first class with their buddies from assisted living facility they are paying 20k a month.

Why the fuck would you want to commute in a f350? It's a truck and drives like one, hard to park, horrible to drive in an urban area, and have to fuel it up all the time. Is he a contractor?

Wow, you're taking it in the shorts for an awful lot of depreciation (and maint. on the 911 long term).
I'm a car guy from way back, 200K HHI and ~$4M liquid assets:
2005 Toyota Matrix XRS (bought used/CPO, wife's daily driver, a little hot rod with that engine)
2005 Toyota Tacoma (wife's garden maint. business truck), bought used
2009 Subaru Outback Limited (bought new)
1973 Porsche 911 (bought from late friend's daughter in 1992 - an appreciating asset)
All paid in cash. I've been through the Saabs, Audis, M-Bs, Acuras, etc., and just don't think it's worth the outlay at this point, though I reserve the right to splurge on one new Porsche (probably a Cayman) before I croak.
Definitely not the Saabs. RIP.
PP here. I miss the SAABs (the pre-GM "classic" ones).

You'd be surprised at how many millionaires are tooling around in pickups. A huge number of millionaires in this country are blue collar business owners, farmers, ranchers, oil workers, you name it. Pickup trucks also last forever and hold their values. So many go easily 200K miles without issue. You either hold onto it forever long after payments are done or you trade it in and get a big chunk of its value back because they hold their value so well.
Yes, agreed, but those aren't generally the type of wealthy people who live here- oil workers, ranchers, farmers, other blue collar people. I very strongly associate truck with blue collar.
I don't live in DC. I live out in the country. We have some really rich people out here, and every man seems to want to drive a pickup. It's a lifestyle thing. My neighbor's family is richer than gawd, and they are not blue collar either, and they tool around in pickups with their dogs. Sometimes they come around and shoot on their land (they own multiple parcels).
It's definitely a lifestyle thing. You Northeasterners wouldn't get it (I didn't at first).

I drive my kids in a suburban for safety but its not a practical commuter. Might buy an e class coupe for that, and fun.
Most of us spend on some luxuries. I'd rather have a comfortable car than waste money at expensive restaurants or hotels. I rarely spend over $150 night for a hotel.
